Missing Features in the New iPhone 5

Apple's new iPhone 5 is here and many people will soon be deciding whether or not they should go for the new model. Here is an overview of all the features that missed the mark on the new iPhone 5.

Design - Nothing Much to Add:

The iPhone 5 is definitely taller and lighter than the iPhone 4 and 4S. The new model is thinner by 18 percent and lighter by 20 percent. However, at the end of the day, it could be mistaken for a longer version of the iPhone 4. Rumors that the new iPhone would be in the shape of a teardrop ultimately turned out to be false. The screen of the iPhone 5 is 4 inches larger diagonally than the iPhone 4. However, people were expecting the new version to be wider as well, rather than merely taller.

Limited Memory Models:

Like the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5 comes in memory capacities up to 64 GB. However, while people were originally satisfied with 64 GB, folks are greedy for more and a 128 GB version of the iPhone 5 would have been well received.

NFC - Not Available:

During the weeks leading up to the release of the iPhone 4S, rumors were abound that Apple would integrate NFC, or Near Field Communication technology into the next version of the iPhone. This feature is available on certain Android phones, including the Samsung Galaxy SIII. This is a technology that replaces bar codes to enable the phone to function as an e-wallet, payment device or car key. However, the iOS 6's Passbook feature gives hope that NFC may be integrated into the next iPhone. Passbook allows users to store e-versions of their boarding passes, tickets, merchant cards all in one place on the phone.

Biometric Scan Feature:

While this is not really a mandatory feature, biometric scanning to unlock screens and to use with NFC while making mobile payments could be a pretty cool thing.

Battery Life Almost Same:

While the faster A6 processor and graphics chip are sure battery drainers, and asking for more battery life with so much performance is a difficult request, many people were hoping that Apple would provide good competition to their Android competitors in terms of battery life. As of now, the battery life of the Apple iPhone 5 seems to be only slightly more improved than the 4S.

Built-In Inductive Charging Not Built In:

At the moment, if you want to charge your phone with "wireless" inductive charging, you need to purchase a charging mat as well as a charging sleeve or case for the phone. These are available with various companies such as Energizer and Powermat.

If the inductive charging chip is integrated into the phone, however, one need no longer buy a charging sleeve. One could use any charging mat to charge the phone through inductive charging.
